This exciting tour combines a “whales guaranteed” wildlife cruise with Alaska’s premier salmon bake.
Following a motorcoach ride to scenic Auke Bay, you’ll board a waterjet-powered catamaran specially designed for wildlife viewing. Relax in the warm, spacious main cabin, surrounded by large windows, as your experienced captain guides you through the island-studded waters of Stephen’s Passage.
Against a majestic backdrop of snow-capped peaks, the onboard naturalist will
explain the behavior and habitat of wildlife you may encounter, including humpback and killer whales, sea lions, porpoise, harbor seals, bald eagles and other wildlife species. The operators of this tour guarantee you will see a whale. If not, you’ll receive a $100 cash refund ($50 refund per child) as you disembark. But don’t anticipate a refund; in the past ten years whales have been sighted on every tour!
Back ashore, a motorcoach is waiting to take you to the Gold Creek Salmon
Bake. Enjoy an outdoor feast of fresh alder-grilled salmon, baked chicken and barbecued ribs, along with rice pilaf, baked beans, salads, corn bread, and a selection of beverages. Beer and wine are also available for an additional charge. Roast marshmallows over a crackling fire, walk the trail to a waterfall, and enjoy many other features of this beautiful rainforest setting, before returning to your ship aboard one of the regularly departing Salmon Bake shuttle buses.
Note: Guests should be able to comfortably walk at least 250 yards unassisted on uneven terrain to fully enjoy attractions at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. Please consult your shore excursion staff, before booking, for details.
